Apple is testing a brand-new ringtone in iOS 26 but it’s hidden deep in the code. Discovered by developers inside the beta, this secret tone might be the next official default ringtone for future iPhones, including the upcoming iPhone 17.

What’s the New Ringtone?

  • The new tone is named “ReflectionAlt1–EncoreRemix”.
  • It appears to be a remixed version of the classic “Reflection” ringtone, which has been the default on iPhones since the iPhone X.
  • Early testers describe it as “glassy,” bouncy, and upbeat, with xylophone-style notes some even say it gives Nokia remix vibes.

Where Did It Come From?

  • First spotted by a developer named @8810cfw on X (Twitter).
  • Later confirmed by known Apple leaker ShrimpApplePro and MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.
  • It’s not yet available in iPhone Settings it only appears hidden in the iOS 26 developer beta code.

Will This Be the iPhone 17’s Signature Ringtone?

Rumors are strong that Apple may debut this new ringtone as part of the iPhone 17 launch later this year. Apple has often used ringtones to introduce new products think back to the original Marimba sound or the iPhone X’s Reflection.

Some experts say it could be part of a refreshed audio identity, matching Apple’s rumored new Liquid Glass UI in iOS 26.

Custom Ringtones Just Got Easier in iOS 26

Alongside the hidden ringtone, iOS 26 includes a great update:

You can now set any MP3, WAV, or M4A file as a ringtone right from the Share Sheet in the Files app.

No more GarageBand or iTunes workarounds. This makes ringtone customization far simpler for everyday users.

Why This Matters

  • A refreshed default ringtone could become a key branding element for iPhone 17.
  • The new ringtone plus easier custom tones show Apple is focusing more on personalization and user experience.
